Teach Your Cat to ComeMany people tell you that cats cannot be trained . . . . UNTRUE. It requires patience and an approach similar to training dogs. PREPARE - Find a high-pitched whistle or sound you can make that is smooth and not raspy. Next find a treat your cat will relish. A high palatability cat treat like FIBER FORMULA® in a pocket dispenser or a small fish-meat treat should work. STARTING - First, simply offer the treat on the floor and whistle at the same time. After a week, whistle and offer the reward only when the cat comes over to you. After the cat will dependably come to your whistle for a reward, have the cat take the treat from your hand. REINFORCE - Most cats will eventually come for rubbing and attention alone, once the habit and positive experience has been established. Randomly reinforce your whistle with a treat so your cat cannot predict when a treat will be given. With patience and creativity there are many things you can train your cat to do. |
