Fiber Questions

Question: What is the difference between soluble and insoluble fiber?
Answer: Soluble fiber is structured like a carbohydrate and produces calories as a result.

Insoluble fiber, it also passes through the stomach and small intestine intact and cannot be digested by the bacteria in the large intestine. This causes the insoluble fiber to pass out in the feces (intact). Insoluble fiber can actually take calories since the body spends energy trying to digest it, which results in no calories.

Question: What type of fiber does Fiber Formula Cat Treats have?
Answer: Fiber Formula Cat Treats contain substantial amounts of both insoluble (measured by crude fiber percentage) and soluble fiber.

Question: I have been told that insoluble (crude) fiber is harmful?
Answer: Both soluble fiber (beet pulp) and insoluble fiber (cellulose) have been shown to be helpful in weight control diets. When to apply each is debated, and experts say that you often need to try each on a case-by-case basis and evaluate response.

Question: What is the "fermentable" fiber in Fiber Formula Cat Treats?
Answer: It is a soluble fiber that bacteria can digest to produce the volatile or short chain fatty acids that nourish the lining of the large intestine.

Question: What about diseases that require a low-fat diet?
Answer
: At only 9.0% DM fat, Fiber Formula Cat Treats are low in fat. At the doctor's discretion, Fiber Formula is often used for:

  1. Hyperlipidemia
  2. Diabetes Mellitus
  3. Inactive pancreatitis
